Cars turning right are a danger for pedestrians

Pedestrians face a lot of risks near the road, even when they follow the traffic signals and have the right of way. Since these accidents are clearly so dangerous for the pedestrian, it's important for everyone to understand the dangers they face. One of the most significant risks comes from cars that are turning right at an intersection.

The problem is that drivers can often turn right on a red light. That is the same time when pedestrians have the walk symbol and are allowed to cross the road. While all of the crossing traffic on that road may have stopped, drivers turning onto it from the opposite road may not.

One man related a story of how this happened to him. He was waiting to cross on the corner and drivers were turning right through the intersection next to him. Over a dozen cars were waiting. When he got the walk signal, they continued turning through the crosswalk. He said that about four cars went through ahead of him before someone finally stopped to let him enter the road.

To make matters worse, the driver behind that car had never seen the pedestrians. As soon as the car stopped and waited for the man -- as drivers are obligated to do when turning on a red light -- that second driver started honking their horn to get things moving again.

This story makes it clear that drivers often do not look for pedestrians or respect their right to share the road. If you get injured in an accident, make sure you know what options you have to seek financial compensation.
