3 family members killed in crash with allegedly impaired driver

A woman and her two daughters were killed on a San Diego County road recently, victims of a crash with an allegedly impaired driver, according to authorities.

Two local women, ages 74 and 40, and a 56-year-old woman from Mexico were identified as the victims, according to police in Oceanside, California, and the San Diego County medical examiner's office.

Police said the crash occurred when a Toyota Tacoma that was headed south at about 1 p.m., on a weekday on South Coast Highway didn't stop at a red light. The pickup truck hit a Mazda sedan with six people inside at the intersection with Oceanside Boulevard, according to police.

A 13-year-old girl riding in the Mazda was ejected and injured. Two other passengers, ages 82 and 43, also were injured and transported to the hospital. All three were expected to recover from their injuries.

The driver of the Tacoma pickup truck was a 19-year-old man who was not injured. The local school district confirmed he graduated from El Camino High School in Oceanside in 2017.

He was arrested on seven felony charges: three counts of gross vehicular manslaughter, three counts of driving under the influence causing bodily injury and possession of a controlled narcotic substance, police said.

Records from the California Department of Motor Vehicles showed that the young man's driver's license had been revoked or suspended in January. He was involved in earlier crashes on Dec. 23, 2017, Jan. 25, 2018 and Sept. 5, 2018.

This was a tragic incident that has left a family changed forever. Three people are gone; three are left to recover from their injuries. An attorney with experience in personal injury cases should be consulted to advise the survivors.
