Man died in crash on California roadway

A 29-year-old man was killed days before Christmas in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in the Griffith Park area of Los Angeles.

The California Highway Patrol said the chain-reaction crash occurred in the northbound lanes. The driver who stands accused of triggering the multi-car crash now faces hit-and-run charges.

The man who was killed was driving his 2009 Honda Civic in the right lane of the busy freeway. His car was hit from behind by a 2015 Mercedes-Benz driven by a 22-year-old man, police said.

The impact forced the Honda to hit the back of a 2006 Toyota Tundra that was waiting in front of the Honda. The Toyota then wound up hitting a 2017 Nissan 370Z that was parked ahead of it.

Paramedics who reported to the scene of the accident declared the operator of the Honda dead on site. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was arrested on suspicion of hit and run. No additional details were available about the man's alleged hit-and-run departure from the site.

Two people riding in the Nissan suffered minor injuries, according to the state highway patrol.

Charges could be added. Investigators are awaiting the release of texts to determine if the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

California highways are legendary for their congestion and other driving hazards. When you are on the road as a driver, you always must take care to watch for other cars on the road to make sure you don't create an accident.

Still, you must be equally adept and defensive driving, meaning you must be alert and anticipate moves of the drivers sharing the road with you. Failure to do so could result in a crash that wasn't your fault.

A local attorney with experience in the accident cases should be on your side if you are a victim of an accident and are injured. An accident attorney will work with you to try to recoup any losses you have suffered as you recover from your injuries.
