3 ways to avoid traffic collisions during the holidays

On Behalf of | Nov 9, 2017 | Car Accidents |

1. Check the weather

Although snow is unlikely, it’s still a good idea to check the weather for high winds, rain and other conditions that could affect your drive. Depending on how far you’re traveling, you’ll want to check the weather in both locations. If you’re heading north, keep in mind that the temperatures are cooler and that snow is possible in the mountains and in nearby states.

2. Plan your route carefully

A good way to avoid getting into a crash is to choose routes that are less likely to be used. For instance, instead of taking a highway, try taking neighborhood streets to get where you want to go. Fewer people know about these routes, so they’re more likely to be clear of other vehicles.

3. Avoid driving after dark

Finally, avoid driving after dark. Driving after dark puts you in a position where other drivers may be intoxicated, tired or distracted. If you drive during the day, it’s easier to see who and what is around you, so you can make good driving decisions and avoid a collision. If you do have to drive at night, slow down and pay attention. It’s harder for drivers to see, so you should prepare to slow and stop quickly in the event that someone doesn’t see your vehicle.

These are a few tips for avoiding crashes during the holidays. Stay safe out there.
