The hazards of older vehicles could catch up to you

When you're driving a car that has a lot of rust on its body, you're putting yourself and others at risk every time you get on the road. Why? Older cars are more dangerous than newer cars to begin with, but when you add in the potential hazard of rust damage, there is a risk of the car literally falling apart.

Drivers who are in a car that is 18 years old or older are 71 percent more likely to die in a car crash than those who are in a vehicle that is three years old or newer. This is a fact that many people need to begin taking into consideration, especially if they plan to purchase a used vehicle. Choosing a vehicle that is older might be better for your budget, but it could lead to a serious collision as a result of defective parts that have rusted away.

Driving a newer car is much safer as long as you're buckled in. In one study, it was shown that those who wore a seat belt in older vehicles had a 46 percent chance of being killed if the vehicle was 19 years old or older. In vehicles that are of the newest models, the risk of death is only 26 percent.

There will always be older vehicles on the roads, but you don't deserve to be put in danger because of them. Our website has more on what you can do if you're involved in a collision and have suffered injuries. You don't have to face this situation on your own.
