When you’re a pedestrian, there are many hazards. Vehicles that pass by you could get into an accident and crash into you, cyclists could collide with you or other hazards could result in you getting hurt. Take for instance this case: A young man was killed and another was injured when a trailer came loose from a truck.
Typically, trailers are bound to trucks with ball bearings and hitches, so they should not come loose. Some loads require safety chains due to the load’s weight.
During this incident, two young men were walking together along Wible Road when the trailer came loose. The trailer contained concrete blocks, which made it particularly heavy. The two men, 18 and 32, didn’t have a chance to get out of the way. The 32-year-old man was killed when he was hit by the trailer. The teen was seriously injured; he suffered a broken back and dislocated elbow in the collision.
After the men were hit, the trailer continued to roll out of control. It entered an intersection where it struck a car. Two other vehicles were struck as a result of the chain-reaction crash that followed. Fortunately, only one of the people involved suffered injuries that required treatment. At this time, the police haven’t decided if they’re going to place charges against the driver. There are various factors to consider.
This incident was likely preventable with the correct safety equipment installed to handle the load the trailer was carrying, but there are other factors to consider. If you’re in a crash like this one, you also have the right to pursue compensation for any injuries you suffer.
