A 49-year-old man got out of his car on the Harbor Freeway and walked towards its rear while the 1999 BMW was stopped in the first lane of the freeway.

According to the California Highway Patrol, an intoxicated driver in a 2003 Honda struck the man at the rear of his car and smashed into the vehicle. The man died of his injuries at the accident scene.

The driver of the Honda was taken into custody on the suspicion of drunk driving causing injury. It is not known if he was able to post bail or when his court date is set for. It is also not known if the driver will face additional charges.

When you lose a loved one because someone else decides to drink and drive, you may be filled with emotions dealing with your loved one’s loss, but also emotions of anger against the drunk driver.

You can seek compensation for your loved one’s final expenses from the at-fault driver. There are also other damages you can pursue, such as pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of companionship, mental trauma and more. An experienced attorney can provide you with your legal options regarding your pursuit for civil justice.

We know that money will not replace your loved one. However, it can help with the family’s finances, especially if your loved one was the primary breadwinner for the family.

Wrongful death lawsuits can be complex and may require expert testimony from accident reconstructionists, medical personnel and others. Yourf attorney will have access to these and other individuals who can testify to the court how your loved one died.
