Most teens possess a trait that many California adults envy: a youthful sense of fearlessness. As youths, most people think they are impervious to physical harm or they might think they are experienced enough to avoid disaster. While many adults mourn the loss of their fearlessness, it is important to remember that no one is truly immune to serious injury or sudden death.
A sad case highlights how a sudden and unexpected accident can result in serious and fatal injuries. According to reports, the 15-year-old teen from Manhattan Beach died after being "towed" on his board by a car driven by another minor. Police officers in the area said that the youth, who was not wearing head protection, became unbalanced, fell and hit his head. When first responders arrived, the teen was unconscious but he died shortly after the incident.
Reports indicate that the young person who was driving the vehicle is cooperating with the authorities and the incident has been deemed an accident. Unfortunately, this could mean that the victim's parents have little legal recourse for seeking justice. They now have some difficult issues to face while also trying to cope with their loss.
To other California residents who have suffered because of serious and fatal injuries under similar conditions, it could be beneficial to talk with a lawyer. Many times taking such steps is the best way for surviving family members to find peace of mind. By talking about the case, it might be possible to uncover negligence or carelessness that may have contributed to the victim's suffering.
