California tour bus accident leaves 1 dead and 26 injured

Just around noon on Feb. 27, a charter tour bus crashed into two vehicles in the Mojave Desert. Unfortunately, the collision resulted in serious and fatal injuries involving nearly 30 victims. The report indicates that the bus veered into the opposite lane for "reasons unknown." It struck two small vehicles, a Chevy Spark and a Subaru Outback in a head-on collision.

The charter bus containing 26 people overturned during the collision before settling in an upright position. The driver of the Subaru Outback suffered severe injuries and died at the scene of the accident. California Highway Patrol has so far reported 26 injuries in total, which nine critical injuries and one death.

Accident investigators said they did not know at what speed the bus was moving but that the vehicles struck with "enough force to leave the two smaller vehicles shredded." The bus was also badly damaged with most of its front section torn away from the rest of the vehicle. Weather reports indicate that winds gusted up to 30 mph under overcast skies on the day of the collision, but the report did not say if weather conditions contributed to the accident.

According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, over a dozen ambulances were called upon to take injured accident victims to four area hospitals. Helicopters were also requested but weather conditions in the area of the accident prevented the flights from taking place. People from several California organizations helped to give victims medical treatment at the scene.

Buses are large, which means they can cause a lot of damage resulting in serious and fatal injuries when involved in an accident. Nothing can make up for losing a loved one to wrongful death or suffering severe injuries, but the legal system can help victims seek compensation while holding the negligent parties accountable. Speak with a personal injury lawyer for more detailed information.
