Truck driver may have been asleep prior to crash

A crash last week in Fresno, California left a large semi truck on its side and a Greyhound bus with damage to its rear end after the truck driver lost control of his vehicle and caused the wreck. Investigators don't believe that the truck driver was drunk or intoxicated in any way when the crash occurred, but they are leaning towards the theory that he was asleep or fatigued. The driver says he doesn't remember what happened in the build-up to the crash.

Four people suffered injuries in the crash, including the truck driver. Thankfully, though, none of the injuries were serious. Investigators are still looking into the crash, even though they said they think it was an "unfortunate accident."

There are two lessons to learn from this story. The first is that truck drivers are far from infallible. They work long hours and sometimes don't respect the rest laws that apply to them. As such, they may get behind the wheel of a large, powerful truck with a less-than-ideal amount of sleep. And sleep isn't the only factor -- truck drivers can become distracted during their line of work, or maybe they just operate the vehicle in a clumsy or negligent fashion.

The other lesson here is that when someone is hurt in a truck accident, it is imperative that they get legal help as soon as possible. If the investigation into the crash turns up evidence that proves the truck driver was reckless or the truck itself was not up to code or properly maintained, then the injured victims could have grounds to file a lawsuit.
